Nakamura Suichiku (中村水竹)
Suichiku NAKAMURA (male, 1806-January 6, 1872) was a Japanese tenkokuka (artist of seal engraving) in the end of Edo period,
His childhood name was 名霄 or 天祥, his name was 元祥, his azana (adult male's nickname) were 爾祥 and 夢竜. He had a second name or alias of 酔茗軒 in addition to Suichiku. His common name was Shume or Harima no suke. He was from Kyoto Prefecture.
Brief Biography
He used to live in north of Nakadachiuri-dori Street, Ichijo Sagaru, Nishinotoin-dori street, Kyoto and had served the Konoe Family for generations. He learned tenkoku (seal-engraving) under Sensho MIKUMO. He was good at calligraphy and literati painting. In 1867, he made imperial seal and seal of state by order of the bakufu (Japanese feudal government headed by a shogun). Also, he engraved a seal for Imperial Prince Arisugawanomiya Taruhito. His Inpu (compilation of seal marks) includes "水竹丹篆."
